Aiyana's Room

So I have hinted at doing a bedroom set for Aiyana. I have finished the bedspread for her and am slowly moving on to the rest of the room. Above is my idea of a sketch. Remember I sew the fabric, I never said anything about being able to sketch well. So on this page you have the closes panels. Aiyana doesn't have closet doors because I am not crazy about doors on closets. My own quirk. I will use stripes of peach and yellow then a block of eyelet fabric with ribbon that I will weave through. Then I will do the casing (the thing the tension rod will go though) in white fabric with a green piping underneath. I know cute huh? The best part is my friend Melissa is going to embroider some really cool panel blocks. Those are the white areas bordered with green piping. She is going to do this really cute @ type flower with vines and leaves. After the closet panels we have the pillows that Melissa again will embroider on. The first is a dream pillow which will have both applique work and embroidery. Then I will "frame" it with a small strip of peach and a larger one of yellow. Add a little green piping and we are good. The pillow below that will be white cotton (bamboo if I can find/afford it) with Aiyana's name on it and flowers. Below that is another square pillow, but that one will have a sleeping fairy on it instead of the word dream. My fairy looks very strange, but I already said I couldn't draw...right? At the very bottom is an idea for the top sheet which will be (hopefully) white bamboo (great for people with allergies) with the words Dream, Imagine, Believe, Wish, Hope, Love in some order or another on the opening with green piping just below it.

This is my second sketch. The one furthest to the left is my window coverings. At the top is the valance which is the same as the closet panels. The curtains will be peach fabric, and the tie back will be embroidered like the panels in the closet. (so they will be detachable and in use only when the curtains are open.) Then you have the sign that will go on her door. It will be a very pretty appliqued and embroidered fairy with flowers and vines and stuff with "Aiyana's Room" to the bottom left of the fairy. I think I will hang it with green ribbon. However this is a sketch so things are subject to change. Below that is the pillow sham which will be out of the ribboned eyelet with a peach ruffle. Then the pillow that she will sleep on. This will be (hopefully) white bamboo (great for people with allergies) with the words Dream, Imagine, Believe, Wish, Hope, Love in some order or another on the opening with green piping just below it.

These are my fabrics. You should know that I have had these fabrics FOREVER and am now just getting around to doing something with them. This is a close up of the white eyelet (I don't know if it is actually eyelet, but that is what I am calling it so....) with the peach ribbon threaded through.

Close up of the eyelet with the yellow threaded through.

This is the same shot just panned out a bit.

Same thing just a little darker.

The yellow fabric. I will be using both a yellow cotton (not pictured) and this poly shantung yellow fabric. I know I seem to be obsessed with this kind of fabric.

This is the peach cotton fabric. I also have some peach "casa collection" fabric that will be used, but is not pictured. I guess I should have taken pictures of all the fabrics. Oh well there is always tomorrow. Anyway that explains the projects. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

For Baby Worthen

Blessing outfit. Okay I know that I LOVE Egyptian cotton. I mean really soft and really nice to sew. HOWEVER I may have to change to cotton-poly blend. I just hate how EC wrinkles. I did use it though for this outfit (it is what I had on hand.), and will from now on most likely use a cotton poly blend to save the poor Mother ironing time. We did the tie out of a more shiny fabric for a little more dimension. The tie is fastned with adjustable snaps. I know too cool right? It just gets better.

Here is the outfit without the tie.

Here is the dress shirt. FOR ALL THE MOMS OF BOYS OUT THERE: I have thought about doing something similar to this for about three years now. I hate how the shirt always come untucked. So we designed our own "new bottom" of a dress shirt pattern. I know cute huh?

Easy convient snaps to change your little one in an ever so small and crowded Mother's lounge at church. (It is just me or are those rooms designed for elfs? Ours only seats two Moms in chairs and maybe if you are lucky another two on the floor. I think women need to design the rooms!!Enough said.)

Close up of the front of the shirt.

The pants.

The blanket I made for Jen. The fabrics are a mix of a million different projects and I don't have time to list them all. The back is made from a stretch knit fabric.

I with I had more of the border fabric to use on the inside lines or vice versa. But I didn't so I will try to stop whinning.
The finished quilt. Jen I hope you like this as much as we liked making it.

Purple Blanket for Lindsey

We did this very cute blanket very last minute for a friend of mine. She had a baby girl, Lindsey, on the last day of August and they came down here for a visit. I had planned on making her a blanket all a long but I hadn't actually made it yet. When I found out they were in town I figured I had better get it done. So I enlisted the help of Steph and we got this blanket sewen in about 2 hours. I'm very happy with the way it turned out and this type of blanket is starting to become a signature of ours. The only thing I would have changed was the way the top stitching turned out but you can't even really see it in the picture so I guess it's not that bad.

For Baby Boy

Toby had work off yesterday for a State holiday (Pioneer Day), so he offered to let me sew all day long. Could life get any better? Okay so I didn't exactly sew all day, but I spent a good portion, sewing. This is the fruit of my labor. I did a bumper and a quilt for a darling little boy. I am very happy with how it turned out. I need to still work on a crib skirt, valance, and a sheet. (I might buy the sheet, but who knows, it all depends on the fabric.) Those will all be very easy up against these two. The problem with the bumper and the quilt is the batting. It is so fluffy and difficult to sew that you really have to take your time with every stitch to make sure that everything gets sewn properly. Then of course you have the weight of the items, trying to pull those puppies through my machine is not easy, especially with kids "helping" out. The fabric is Kona cotton and a poly blend cotton. Scroll down to see the sketches.

Emma's Quilt

Here is the back of Emma's quilt. I know it is hard to see, but I tried! *smile*

Above is a picture of the front of the quilt. It looks a lot like the back, but I used some moon and stars fabric through out on the front.

Above: The plain white microfiber fleece that I used.

Baby Quilt

Stephanie and I got the baby quilt finished up last night. I am absolutely in love with it! It turned out fantastic! Of course, once again, the pictures do not do it justice.

Melissa's friend in Washington is going to have a baby girl. Since Melissa can't make it we made her little girl a quilt.

The made her a "bucket" to match and to hold all the newborn stuff. I bought the "stuffing" Melissa bought the fabric. Hope Kara likes it!
