Isabella's Birthday Dress

You'll have to excuse me while I get a little sentimental before I post pictures of the beautiful birthday dress we made my Miss Isabella for her first birthday. Here is my beautiful baby shortly after she was born wearing one of the sleepers we made her.

Here she is celebrating her 1st birthday in her beautiful birthday dress we made her.

It's amazing how much they grow in a year! Okay, I'm done with the mushy look how much she has grown portion of this post now onto the dress! The pictures aren't the best for seeing how the dress looked on her and I'm trying to figure out how to do a little photo shoot with her to fix that problem. Due to the fact that I'm not feeling too hot today, I'm just going to copy and paste the post about the dress itself from my other blog.

As usual I had an idea in mind for what I wanted this dress to be and then it was just a matter of finding the right materials in real life. I wanted to do a blue dress for her to match the mermaid under the sea theme that I'm doing for her party. The color ended up what you would probably call aqua. The tulle in the skirt is actually a green color but it matches perfectly.

Isabella's Birthday Dress

I don't know where I would be without my friend and co-conspirator, Stephanie. She helped me pick out just the right fabrics and with all of the sewing. We used her serger to do a 3 stitch overlock hem on the shear fabrics. I don't normally like this kind of hem but in this instance it was exactly what I wanted. The back of the dress gave us some trouble. The pattern we used called for a zipper but I didn't want a zipper extending into the skirt so we switched it to buttons. When we got to doing the buttonholes neither Stephanie or I really liked the way it was looking. We decided to have one button at the top and leave the rest open like a keyhole back.

The skirt is 3 layers of fabric. The top layer is an aqua organza with little silver "beads" sprinkled all over it. The middle layer is two layers of green tulle. The bottom layer is aqua organza.

The skirt is very sheer and definitely has to have the diaper cover underneath it. It is also very short but I wanted it short so she could call in it. Stephanie calls it a crawling skirt.

It turned out so beautiful! I'm so happy with how she looked in it too!

For Baby Worthen

Blessing outfit. Okay I know that I LOVE Egyptian cotton. I mean really soft and really nice to sew. HOWEVER I may have to change to cotton-poly blend. I just hate how EC wrinkles. I did use it though for this outfit (it is what I had on hand.), and will from now on most likely use a cotton poly blend to save the poor Mother ironing time. We did the tie out of a more shiny fabric for a little more dimension. The tie is fastned with adjustable snaps. I know too cool right? It just gets better.

Here is the outfit without the tie.

Here is the dress shirt. FOR ALL THE MOMS OF BOYS OUT THERE: I have thought about doing something similar to this for about three years now. I hate how the shirt always come untucked. So we designed our own "new bottom" of a dress shirt pattern. I know cute huh?

Easy convient snaps to change your little one in an ever so small and crowded Mother's lounge at church. (It is just me or are those rooms designed for elfs? Ours only seats two Moms in chairs and maybe if you are lucky another two on the floor. I think women need to design the rooms!!Enough said.)

Close up of the front of the shirt.

The pants.

The blanket I made for Jen. The fabrics are a mix of a million different projects and I don't have time to list them all. The back is made from a stretch knit fabric.

I with I had more of the border fabric to use on the inside lines or vice versa. But I didn't so I will try to stop whinning.
The finished quilt. Jen I hope you like this as much as we liked making it.

Hawaiian part two

When I posted this project last time I didn't have models for the tie and I didn't have the outfit solo. So here they are.

Summer flowers

We made this pink dress for Aiyana to hopefully last her though the summer.

The bow detail for the front of the dress. We also made two hair bows, but I didn't have clips for the back, so that will have to wait.

The back of the dress paired with a bolero jacket we made a while ago.

No I have not lost my ability to fit a dress. This one is big on purpose because I want it to last longer than one day of church. This dress is made from scraps from Easter outfits 2008.

Bed time part two...

These are the same as the others but in blue and grey, with blue trim.

The shorts and shirt together. (I should have put some ribbon on the shorts and added cute little bows to the side.....too bad I ran out of ribbon!)

Close up detail of the ribbon on the sleeve.
The finished shirt. This project was made with scraps from Aiyana's Cinderella costume from October 2007.

Bed time

We made these super cute pjs for Aiyana. I didn't have enough elastic so we did a drawsting for the front. I think I actually liked it better because it gives you a nice bow effect for the front.

Here is the outfit laid out. One of these days I will post pattern number and all that stuff, but I am lazy and it is pretty rare that I don't change a pattern. I really want to learn to pattern make so I guess I am learning by messing around with the ones that I buy.

Close up detail shot of the arm band. (this pattern wanted me to just sew the elastic on the inside of the shirt, but I didn't like that idea, so I got some ribbon, pinned it on the OUTSIDE and threaded the elastic through that.)
Close up of the drawstring bow. This fabric was left over from her Cinderella dress we made October 2007.
